Warsaw Uprising

On August 1, 1944, Polish underground groups launched a revolt against the German occupiers. As the Red Army failed to join in the fight as anticipated, the uprising had no chance of success. On October 2, 1944, the Polish units were forced to surrender. Around 16,000 armed Poles, 150,000 civilians, and 2,000 Germans died in the fighting.
